AssessmentEducatorsOur SFUSD high school physical education program is guided by the CA State Content Standards and our SFUSD P.E. Mission Statement
developed by teachers of SF. Our hard-working, thoughtful staff is directed by multiple goals for each student: 1) attaining a level of personal fitness; 2) using technology to design and implement a personal fitness program based on scientific principles; and 3) developing knowledge and proficiency in selected motor skill activities for enjoyment and continued activity commitment; 4) using research. These goals are crucial to lifetime wellness. Supplemental textbooks used in high school are Fitnessgram and Activitygram, Fitness For Life and Personal Best texts. An outcome is to provide students with the knowledge and skills to design, write and implement an individualized six-week fitness plan, learn to self manage and self assess, will become proficient in heart rate monitor technology and will learn to apply the principles of training, FITT principal, components of fitness, and components of a training session, independent learners, develop positive social skills, become informed consumers, learn to self assess, and set personal goals. Our ultimate goal is to prepare students for the 21st century by promoting healthy lifestyles through physical activity. Physical literacy leads to independence as we take our children through a Stairway to Lifetime Fitness. By spring 2015 in support of our SFUSD Goals, PE BSC, PE Mission Statement, CA PE State Standards and stakeholders input, our high school PE Teacher Leaders, Program Administrator and consultant collaborate to develop a 21st Century Learning PE Curriculum Plan. The plan is designed to bring our that includes a Year 1 goals: Completion of a rationale for a 21st Century Learning PE Curriculum Definition of high-quality PE lesson indicators Blackboard Configuration and Look For's Quality Indictors Definition of a high quality PE program Professional development - state content standards and 21st Century mission statement training (emphasis on individual and dual activities) - 21st Century health-related and skill-related fitness training (TRX partnership) - social-emotional skills and activities training - cross-collaboration with multi-lingual pathways and Content Area Language and Literacy with a goal of Fitness For Life text access for all learners with emphasis on EL students.
